Internet of Things Concentration Program

This interdisciplinary program covers smart applications built using smart systems capable of sensing, actuation, computing, and communication. In this concentration, students learn how to use smart systems to develop fascinating applications such as those used in smart homes, smart cities, intelligent transportation systems, and more. Topics covered include IoT applications, embedded systems and sensing, IoT communication protocols, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), cloud and edge computing, big data analytics, and IoT security. Students are introduced to embedded systems programming and interfacing.

Students also learn how to connect smart things to each other, as well as to the cloud. Through learning big data analytics, students can use advanced analytics and machine learning to process sensor data and build innovative applications. Students are also exposed to how IIoT is used in industrial applications using state-of-the-art use cases.

يغطي هذا التخصص التطبيقات الذكية التي يتم تطويرها باستخدام أنظمة ذكية قادرة على الاستشعار، والتشغيل، والحوسبة، والاتصال. في هذا التخصص، يتعلم الطلاب كيفية استخدام الأنظمة الذكية لتطوير تطبيقات مثيرة مثل تلك المستخدمة في المنازل الذكية، والمدن الذكية، وأنظمة النقل الذكية، وغيرها. تشمل المواضيع التي يتم تناولها تطبيقات إنترنت الأشياء، الأنظمة المدمجة والاستشعار، بروتوكولات اتصال إنترنت الأشياء، إنترنت الأشياء الصناعي (IIoT)، الحوسبة السحابية وحوسبة الحافة، تحليل البيانات الضخمة، وأمن إنترنت الأشياء.

يتعرف الطلاب على برمجة الأنظمة المدمجة وطرق الربط بينها. كما يتعلمون كيفية توصيل الأجهزة الذكية مع بعضها البعض، وكذلك مع السحابة. من خلال تعلم تحليل البيانات الضخمة، يمكن للطلاب استخدام التحليلات المتقدمة وتعلم الآلة لمعالجة بيانات المستشعرات وبناء تطبيقات مبتكرة. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، يتم تعريف الطلاب بكيفية استخدام إنترنت الأشياء الصناعي (IIoT) في التطبيقات الصناعية من خلال حالات عملية متقدمة.

Eligibility Criteria

Requirements:

Minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for all BSc KFUPM students.
Students with applied major cannot enroll in concentrations.
Students who completed (79 – 115 hours).
Students who finished all junior-level courses of the specific majors are eligible to enroll in the concentration after completing the prerequisites.

Timeline:

Applications open at the end of the first semester of the Junior year ( around November ) till the middle of the following semester ( around February).
Applications are reviewed at the end of the second semester or early summer.
