Smart and Sustainable Buildings Concentration Program

In contrast to Smart Cities program, which focus on city-scale systems, this interdisciplinary program focuses on Smart and Sustainable Buildings (SSBs) and their indoor environments. It covers topics that stem from the use of smart and responsive building materials and devices, intelligent automation (e.g., AI, IoT, etc.), innovative renewable energy applications, and efficient building systems. Students are introduced to communication, automation technology, and processes to control and connect SSB systems and occupants to the building environment. Students will be able to engage in the automation of building services and to design, integrate, and implement alternative smart digital solutions to the operation and management of SSBs, including AI-based and Cloud-based applications.
على عكس برنامج المدن الذكية الذي يركز على الأنظمة على مستوى المدن، يركز هذا البرنامج متعدد التخصصات على المباني الذكية والمستدامة (SSBs) وبيئاتها الداخلية. يغطي البرنامج مواضيع تتعلق باستخدام مواد وأجهزة بناء ذكية ومستجيبة، والأتمتة الذكية (مثل الذكاء الاصطناعي، إنترنت الأشياء، إلخ)، وتطبيقات الطاقة المتجددة المبتكرة، وأنظمة البناء الفعالة. يتم تعريف الطلاب بتقنيات الاتصال والأتمتة والعمليات التي تتيح التحكم في أنظمة المباني الذكية والمستدامة وربطها بالمقيمين في البيئة الداخلية للمبنى. سيتمكن الطلاب من المشاركة في أتمتة خدمات المباني وتصميم ودمج وتنفيذ حلول رقمية ذكية بديلة لتشغيل وإدارة المباني الذكية والمستدامة، بما في ذلك التطبيقات المستندة إلى الذكاء الاصطناعي والسحابة.
Application for the Concentration Program
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements:
- Minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for all BSc KFUPM students.
- Students with applied major cannot enroll in concentrations.
- Students who completed (79 – 115 hours).
- Students who finished all junior-level courses of the specific majors are eligible to enroll in the concentration after completing the prerequisites.
Timeline:
- Applications open at the end of the first semester of the Junior year ( around November ) till the middle of the following semester ( around February)
- Applications are reviewed at the end of the second semester or early summer.
