đź“– User Guide: Flagging Posts

Flagging serves as a crucial tool in maintaining a respectful and constructive discussion environment within the STKFUPM community. It enables users to highlight content that may require moderator attention without interrupting the ongoing conversation.

When to Flag a Post

Consider flagging a post if it exhibits any of the following issues:

  • Off-Topic: Diverts from the thread’s main discussion.
  • Community Guideline Violations: Breaks the established community norms.
  • Spam or Promotional: Contains unsolicited promotions or advertisements.
  • Inappropriate or Offensive: Includes content that may be deemed offensive or inappropriate for the community.
  • Other Concerns: Raises issues not specifically categorized but still concerning.

How to Flag a Post

  1. Find the Post: Navigate to the post you believe needs moderation.
  2. Initiate a Flag:
  • Click the flag icon (:triangular_flag_on_post:) located at the bottom of the post.

  • Select the most appropriate flagging option based on the issue:

    • Message the User: Send a personal note to discuss the issue.
    • Off-Topic: Mark the post as not relevant to the ongoing discussion.
    • Inappropriate: Indicate the post is offensive or not suitable.
    • Spam: Flag the post as spam or promotional.
    • Illegal: Report content that may be illegal.
    • Something Else: Specify another reason not listed.
  • Note: The available options might vary as they are customizable by forum administrators.

What Happens After Flagging

  • Moderator Notification: Moderators are promptly informed and will review the flagged post.
  • Automated Reminders: If unaddressed for 48 hours, all moderators receive a reminder.
  • Post Visibility: Posts accumulating three flags will be automatically hidden but can still be viewed by opting to see them.
  • Immediate Actions: Moderators may use the “Take Action” button to hide a post if deemed necessary.
  • User Notifications: Users whose posts are hidden will be notified and can edit their posts to make them visible again—subject to reevaluation if re-flagged.

Consequences of Flags

  • Impact on New Users: New users (Trust Level 0) with three spam flags from different users will have their posts automatically hidden.
  • Trust Level Impact: Accumulating five or more flags prevents users from reaching Trust Level 3.
  • Flag Duration: Only flags from the past 100 days affect Trust Level 3 eligibility.
  • Staff Flags: Flags validated by staff are particularly influential.

Automatic Closure of Topics

  • High-Flag Volume: Topics with 12 unresolved flags from at least five different users will automatically close pending moderator review.

This customized guide should better align with the STKFUPM community’s standards and practices, ensuring that members understand how to responsibly use the flagging system to maintain a healthy discussion environment.
