📖 User Guide: Tagging for STKFUPM Users

Welcome to the STKFUPM community! In addition to categories, we use tags to help keep discussions organized and easy to navigate. Tags are a flexible, lightweight way to categorize content, making it easier for you to find relevant posts and participate in discussions.

What are Tags?

Tags are like labels you can add to topics to describe the content. Unlike categories (which are fixed and controlled), tags are more flexible:

  • You can apply multiple tags to a single topic.
  • Tags work across categories, allowing more fluid organization.
  • If allowed, you can even create your own tags to better describe your content.

For example, in the Career category, you might tag topics with specific companies like Aramco or Sabic, or in a technical discussion, you could tag it with programming or mechanical-engineering.

Why Use Tags?

Tags help you:

  • Find relevant topics quickly by filtering discussions based on tags.
  • Organize content more specifically, especially when multiple topics fall under a broad category.
  • Receive personalized content by watching tags you’re interested in.

For example, if you’re focused on KFUPM admissions, you can search for or follow tags like admissions or KFUPM-exams to find all relevant discussions.

How to Use Tags

1. Adding Tags to a Topic

When creating or editing a topic, simply add tags to describe the content. You can select from existing tags or create new ones (if allowed).

2. Finding Topics by Tag

You can click on any tag in a post to see all topics that use that tag. Alternatively, you can search for tags in the search bar.

3. Following Tags

If you want to stay updated on a specific tag, you can watch or track it:

  • Watch a Tag: Get notified for every new topic that uses this tag.
  • Track a Tag: See updates in your feed, but without notifications.

To follow a tag:

  • Go to a tag page and select the notification bell to choose Watch or Track.

Best Practices for Tagging

  • Keep it relevant: Choose tags that accurately describe your topic.
  • Use multiple tags if necessary: If your topic touches on multiple subjects, feel free to add more than one tag.
  • Follow important tags: Stay updated on discussions by following tags that matter to you, whether they’re related to academics, careers, or university life.
